A VOX Investigates Poem: Weary Travelers

by share

Weary black travelers

Must get out of their

Cars

Weary black travelers,

Stopped.

Weary Hispanic travelers

Must put their hands on their

Head

Weary Hispanic travelers,

Frisked.

And I do not know

Whose numbers are closer

To truth

All I know is that last weekend I was pulled over

For walking too fast down the sidewalk.

“Where you going, black Muslim girl?

Ain’t nothing here for you.”

I told him I’m walking toward freedom.
